Resetting Your Body, Mind, and Soul with Yoga

In this episode of The Yacht Stew, I speak with Chief Stewardess Rhia. When asked for her top recommendation to combat anxiety and overwhelm, Rhia answered yoga.

Rhia underwent a 200-hour yoga teacher training in Rishikesh, India, first for her benefit. Not long after, though, she experienced such a passion for yoga and a vast appreciation for the positive impact that the practice has had on her life. She went ahead and took the 300-hour advanced training for Vinyasa flow—her favourite style of yoga to do and teach.

Rhia established a non-negotiable that she would do 30 to 40 minutes of yoga during her breaks while at work. All the pressure of being a crew member completely disappears through something as simple as becoming aware of your breathing or putting your legs up against the wall to rest them after hours of being on your feet. It also helps to address body pain of all sorts like backache or sore feet by knowing which poses to assume.

For Rhia, yoga is a calming and therapeutic experience that allows you to get outside yourself and your worries to reset your body, mind, and soul for the challenges ahead.

Here’s a glimpse of what you’ll learn:

  • How yoga changed Rhia’s life
  • Yoga as a door opener to becoming more health-conscious in all aspects
  • Flows specially designed by Rhia for yacht crew to be able to do in confined spaces

Memorable Quotes:

“It’s so easy to feel overwhelmed and feel like the guests and the crew, and the boat is your whole world. But to be able to have a practice that can bring you back into the moment, bring you back into yourself, clear your mind, and make you feel better both physically and mentally is an extraordinary thing.”

“Instead of getting caught up in the moment, taking some time to do yoga allows you the time to step back and look at your situation from an outsider’s perspective and reassess the situation.”

“Saying you’re not flexible enough for yoga is like saying you’re too dirty to have a shower.”
