During my final semester at University, I told my best friend, “I think I’m going to do this whole yachting thing!” She replied with “When do we go?” Over seven years later I’m still traveling around the world, enjoying adventure and friendships as a Super Yacht Chief Stewardess.

In the past 8 years of The Yacht Stew I’ve had the privilege to chat to so many aspiring yacht crew that got in touch with questions they have about the industry, being a stewardess onboard, courses for green & junior crew and also about landing your first position. Over the years the type of questions I get have stayed very similar which made me realise that these are topics most joining steward(ess)es are curious about. That’s why I’ll be hosting a FREE webinar for aspiring stews & junior stews that needs advice, want to connect and have their questions answered.

The free webinar is for anyone that wants to join this incredible industry as a steward(ess) but feels that they need some guidance with where to start and which courses you can do to highlight and build on the experience you already have on your CV.

Today I had a lovely catch up with Gem’s mom, @50funkyandfabulous 🌸 It’s hard to believe that five months have passed since Gem left us 🕊

For those that don’t know, when the GoFundMe account was set up, Gem had asked for her mom to handle the finances, so Jayn was the beneficiary of the funds raised. Today we got to chat about how the family will be using the money raised. They have decided to create a grief group for parents who have lost their children and are working with UK based cancer charities that focus on those under 30 who are battling cancer. Jayn will be starting the Floating Florista foundation, which focuses beach hut respite days for cancer patients, exactly like Gem’s respite days just before her final hospital stay. They are also working on making Pap Smears more accessible to yacht crew alongside a list of several other yacht crew related projects they would like to do.

It’s a lot. And they are working through one project at a time while almost managing life without Gem. Jayn has shared that the @floatingflorista page will become the foundation page & if you have any questions about the fundraiser or foundation, she’s happy to share more details. Reach out to @50funkyandfabulous 💗

It’s a beautiful thing to know that Gem’s story isn’t forgotten and her legacy will continue.

P.S. This joy-filled photo was from Gem’s respite day in September 2021. She had always dreamed of decorating a beach hut & now fellow cancer fighters will get to experience the same joy in Gem’s honour 💗

Community is a recurring theme for TYS & the yachting community. With so much going on right now, having a group of people supporting you is more important than ever!

To start building more of a land-based community, I’ve partnered with @yachtpearlsofwisdom to put together an event for stewardesses past & present to discuss the transition to land, learn about financial planning and various career prospects. This event is completely FREE - no hidden agenda, just a group of incredible women sharing and connecting.

🗓 April 8th 2022
📍 @theshardlondon
⏰ 11:00 - 16:00
What’s included? Afternoon Tea, Panel Discussions, Networking & a raffle with goodies from yachtie owned small businesses.

There are only five seats left, so please send me a DM if you like to attend.

Bring on an afternoon of tea, learning & connecting!
Happy LOVE Day! How gorgeous is this balloon-yacht-art for V-day?!

It’s no secret that I'm a total sucker for this hallmark holiday & I'm fully embracing it! Here’s to a day of loving myself completely (flaws and all!) and taking the time to remind those around me of how much I freaking love them.

And even though I am in an extra sappy mood today, just know that I love you all. I have met some of my best friends through this platform & while social media can be hit & miss - this community is just so beautiful.

Introducing the pantone colour of the year ‘Very Peri’! I’m a massive fan of this colour & can not wait to see how this colour comes to life through design trends this year.

Speaking of trends, I am working away on an exciting project with@kimseybert, the ultimate tabletop visionary & I can not wait to share with all of you!

What are your thoughts on ‘Very Peri’?

Looking to step up onboard, but not sure where to start?

Have an honest conversation with yourself, what are your strengths & weaknesses? Own that! No one is perfect & a little humility goes a long way. I knew I seriously lacked confidence behind the bar, so I took an intensive course & started Cocktail Friday when I became Chief Stew in an effort to learn as much as possible.

Have tips for a stew looking to step up? Leave them below!

Green Crew! Today’s post if for you! 🌸

Interviewing can be daunting to say the least so I’ve put together a few questions I suggest asking during interviews.

1) Find out about crew dynamics and longevity.
2) What does the role involve? Progression onboard?
3) What’s the interior structure & the structure of hierarchy onboard?
4) Do they prioritise onboard training?

And just a reminder that the HOD on the other end of the phone may be a little nervous too! Interviewing a candidate to join their team and become apart of the boat’s family is a huge responsibility.
Be yourself, come prepared and fingers crossed you find the most amazing crew to join!
